Uruguayan amethyst, the quality purple stone

Druses and geodes in Uruguay

Amethyst is a violet-colored variety of quartz, appreciated since ancient times for its beauty, its benefits and for the creation of jewelry.

The amethyst is found in colossal geodes, cavities that are formed in basic igneous rocks due to the strong dispersion of gas during their consolidation. The most important deposits are found in Brazil but the best quality amethysts come from Uruguay: they they are super sought after, have beautiful bluish-purple colors and large and perfect crystals.

A curiosity, a very particular and rare geode was also found in a mine in Uruguay: a rock of over 80 kilos which, when breaking it, shows a heart inside. A unique and unrepeatable design, a real treasure, which obviously has been put up for sale.

Amethyst, meaning and properties in crystal therapy

The name of the stone derives from the Greek améthystos which means "he who does not get drunk", as according to the legend Bacchus, in love with a nymph who was transformed into a jewel, poured his wine on the crystal giving it the purple color and the power not to get the wearer drunk.

Amethyst was used as a precious stone since the ancient Egyptians and was widely used in ancient times by carvers; amethyst spheres have been found in ancient Anglo-Saxon tombs in England.

It is worn as an amulet to favor influential and powerful people, people with prophetic abilities, poets, travelers, publicists.

In crystal therapy this purple stone gives peace, serenity, balance and harmony, repels negative thoughts, gives acuity in business and dissolves fear and helps to face situations with more conscience. With its positive energy it prevents health problems, which is why it is ideal to always have an Amethyst Druse at home or in the workplace.

To clean the amethyst, use soap and water and scrub the crystals with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Be careful to expose it to sunlight because if left in direct light it may lose the intensity of the color and, over time, fade.
